What a great time with AWESOME people! This day marked the first hike of Virginia's HFB! So neat to see so many happy people and Maryland HFB'ers out there supporting!
The trail was a little muddy near the bottom from recent rains, but all dried out once we gained some elevation. There was fog at the top though not dense enough to completely obstruct the view!
We also saw a film crew up there from the local college! Very cool...they humped up a lot of gear! Not sure what the subject was; they hadn't started filming but attempted to block us from enjoying the view for a moment! They tried telling us "we have permits" for the entire area surrounding the view, but they failed to produce any permits. (They left their permit "in their cars").
We made it a loop by cutting over to the Bears Den Hostel which was a really neat stone building that has a code for access--you have to pull an elevation from a certain page of your A.T. guidebook to get the code! Very cool--this is in attempt to keep the hostel for thru-hikers only.
At a parking area there was an amazing bear carving in dead a tree! Very impressive!!
Afterward we met at Dirt Farm Brewery just down the road. They have one amazing view! Quite possibly better than the view from Bears Den itself! Good brew, fine food, and great people!
